Dear Chaparral Families,

I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Lisa Yamashita and I am the Principal at Chaparral School. I am excited and thrilled to be part of this community.

Here is a little about me and my background: I have 19 years educational experience spanning grades K-university, with a specific concentration in reading/ language arts development. I have worked as an elementary school administrator in Southern Oregon and for the Los Angeles Unified. Prior to being an administrator I served as an elementary teacher in Glendale Unified School District for nine years. I have also had the opportunity to teach at both Cal State LA and Cal State Northridge. I am elated to bring my skills as an educational leader to Chaparral and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child’s success.

I, along with the Chaparral staff, work diligently to continue the legacy of success established here at Chaparral through building strong relationships with parents, students, staff, and community partners. This year we continue to focus on strategies to increase students’ achievement in the California State Standards,  implementing the recently adopted language arts curriculum Wonders by McGraw-Hill, integrating technology across all content areas, and providing exciting and challenging enrichment opportunities for all students. I anticipate a most successful year as the team and I support the academic, social, and emotional growth of your child here at Chaparral Elementary School. During the course of the year, it is my hope that we will work together to provide our “Roadrunners” the best possible opportunities in preparing them to be world-class citizens ready to master the challenges of the 21st Century with a solid foundation created here at our school. As Principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to stop in or call to make an appointment to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas to help make this the best year yet! Please consider joining our Parent Faculty Association (PFA). We have monthly meetings on the fourth Monday of the month.

I look forward to working with you and your child!

Very Respectfully,

Lisa Yamashita
